It has been a long time coming, but the wait is almost over. Disney+ will launch on 18 May 2022 in South Africa. This will give us access to a huge library of shows and movies ranging from The Book of Boba to the eagerly anticipated Obi Won Kenobi which begins late May. For us it also will bring in some old classics like a remastered X-Men: The Animated Series, which mind you is going to be getting new episodes. Personally this alone is worth a the subscription. Speaking of which…
Prices
There will only be 1 version of the package at launch which will cost R119 per month or a introductory yearly subscription of R950 (Thereafter standard rates will apply). This will allow for up to 4 concurrent streaming on multiple devices as well as selected titles in 4k and no extra cost.
The price structure is very competitive, ,more so if you take up the special offer, which actually knocks this down to R79.16 per month which is ridiculously cheap. If you are a DSTV subscriber then keep and eye out and a partnership has been formed in order to help bring this content to your home. — Contact your Service Provider for more information
Content
There is an abundance of content that will be available to from day 1. Ranging from the obvious like every single Disney movie ever made to the marque licenses like Star Wars and Marvel. It doesn’t just end there, National Geographic will be included allowing us to enjoy Shark Week every week. or maybe you are just a little weird like me and need some Jeff Goldblum in your life. THe highly acclaimed “The World According to Jeff Goldblum” is there for us.
Disney + will also bring in copious amounts of content from the not so recently acquired Juggernaut FOX. Again this will not be limited to just movies, but include shows and specials. So when you start to add all this up and further add in the Disney owned ABC channel, you start to realise that there is a lot of content for very low cost. For us, the biggest drawcard is both new and old shows. Kenobi, already has me whipping out my credit card and old classics like the original X-Men Animated Series has be double tapping.
Family
Disney has always been about family friendly entertainment. They have of course kept to that in mind with the design of their streaming service. However rather than bundle there respective channels separately they have included it all in one easy to use service. This makes it cost effective for both us and them.
They have not forgotten the prime audience. Us the kids (well kid at heart anyway). The service will allow up to 7 profiles within an account. Each profile can be specifically set up for an individual with restrictions on age. This means us parents can control the content our kids view. Protected by PIN of course. (We will provide a step by step after GO LIVE)
There are many streaming service out there right now, but honestly getting them all may become expensive. Here at Nerdgasm we believe in the Holy Trinity. DIsney is definitely part of the best 3 streaming apps to have. We have waited for this oe to hit our shores. No doubt we will be a day one subscriber.
