The Dr. Strange Cameo Breakdown

Now that 2021. 2022 (lol) is now in full swing, we can start preparing ourselves for the onslaught of comic-book movies that are making their way here. Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is right up there for me. Most of it is for the cameos and the potential of one of my favourite characters arriving in the MCU. No Way Home proved that listening to the fans has huge merit and huge profits too. The perfect win-win for both fans and studios.

So DSMM (Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness) promised a lot of cameos. After all, what is the point of a multiverse without variants? (as they have become affectionally called)

Dr. Strange Dark

Well, this is pretty much obvious at this point; he has after all already been seen in the flesh in both end credits and trailer. I think the question is, how big of a role. Marvel is the king of misdirection. (cough, cough Andrew Garfield) and he may be nothing more than a red herring. Or maybe they are playing of the last movie and just pulling a double bluff. I reckon it is a bit of both. I think the dark doctor is part of the Illuminati (more on that later) and is here to help and not hurt. He does have the same dark past but is now on a path of redemption.

Unconfirmed Cameos

Deadpool

Ryan Reynolds has been suspiciously quiet on the Deadpool front. At this point, all we know is the Merc with a Mouth is officially in the MCU from a contractual standpoint. However, he has yet to make his official appearance. No Way Home would have suited him and made sense since old Wade is obsessed with Spiderman and probably knows his secret identity. That did not materialize; therefore, the next logical choice should be DSMM. Now as we all remember, he fixed Cable’s time-traveling friendship bracelet and went on a spree. Having that spree pull him into the MCU is easy writing (lazy?) This puts Deadpool in the MCU and he goes to his third solo outing.

Wolverine

Hugh Jackman in the MCU? Why would Kevin Feige pass up what may be the last opportunity to have the OG Wolverine in a movie? This would also allow Reynold to fulfill his lifelong desire of sharing at least a moment on screen together with Logan. While Jackman has ruled out ever returning, this isn’t just a cameo, it is the mack-daddy of cameos. Not only do we get Dp and Wolvie but also them now in the MCU, together forever in holy matrimony.

X-Men

Another rumor is that Professor X and a few of his X-Men will also be present within the madness. While the X-Men may just end up as dressing, Xavier will have a more significant role. Like Dr. Strange, he too will be part of the Illuminati. There is no clue as to which Xavier will be present, though I suspect Patrick Stewart would be the safe bet. This also then opens the doors for the MCU x-gene to be introduced.

Mr. Fantastic

Another Illuminati member, for those that do not know, the Illuminati is a group formed by some of Marvels’ greatest minds to protect the Multiverse. Well, that is the short of it. Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic is indeed a great mind. As for which Reed we will get… well that is where it gets interesting. Apparently, we will be getting two. The OG Richard and MCU Richard. That is right, we going to get a sneak peek at who the new MR Fantastic will be.

Human Torch

This one may be too much, but the rumor goes that it will be pure fan service. It will have Chris Evans enter the scene, in regular clothes. The audience would obviously believe him to be a Captain America Variant. But then he says flame on and transforms into the Human Torch. Personally, I think this would a nice fun once-off.

Ironman

Well, let’s just be clear, it will not be RDJ but rather the actor who almost played Ironman. Tom Cruise. What? Yes. If this happens then I am down for it. It is not that I do not want to see RDJ again. I just think that it’s too soon. We need to feel the death of Tony for a while longer. And if he ever decides to return it should be for a proper Avengers movie. It would be very interesting to see his interpretation of Tony Stark.

Loki and Sylvie

Ah yes, the two Loki’s. While I do not dislike Sylvie, I do not think I would miss her if she were not in Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. However, there is a key moment in the DSMM trailer that shows a TVA door right behind Wanda. This could be the OG God of Mischief or his variant, or even both. Loki is a character that could easily slide into any Marvel movie and steal the show. His cameo also fits in nicely with the theme of the movie. This is a very likely cameo.

Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness will be Marvel Studios’ most ambitious movie. Having set the tone in No Way Home, it is the perfect follow-up movie. It will most likely dial up the antics. And the fans’ super warm reception of the multiverse in Spiderman proves that if you give fans what we so desperately crave, the money keeps piling up. (Warner Bro are you paying attention?)
