Look, Marty

Back to the Future, is our number 1 entry, just barely. It widened our eyes with the time-traveling DeLorean and had Micheal J Fox, who was so smooth he almost charmed his own mum out her pants. Rounding off the stellar cast as the eccentric Doc Brown played perfectly by Christopher Lloyd. Turn the hands forward a decade or two and Back to the Future is still a hundred Gigawatts of 80’s fun.

Darth v Luke

Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back, was the follow up to one the biggest ( not so much then ) movies ever made. Expanding on the mythology it captivated our imagination like nothing before. Arguably better than its predecessor. It gave us one of the biggest plot twists matched only by the classic lines.

i will be back

Terminator was the science fiction turned horror film that re-defined the movies. It had people secretly rooting for the bad guy. It catapulted Arnie to stardom and pop culture heaven. it is here that Schwarznegger coined his now-famous line: “I’ll be back!’

Ghostbusters arrived with a catchy song, mesmerizing special effects, and a witty script. More than that it had and determination. From almost never being made to numerous cast selection changes it eventually blossomed into the beautiful flower we all know and love today. Sigh it would have been magical to see Ramis and the boys for one last bust. Till today everybody knows who they going to call.

aliens
sneaky sneaky xenomorph

Aliens, another Cameron creation makes the list as well. Another sequel that amps up what came before but with enough new elements to keep it fresh. But then again who would argue with a horde of Xenomorphs. The legendary space monsters still get us to jump scared decades later.

yippee ka yay

Die Hard gave us our first average guy hero and Hans Grueber. A mix of adventure, action, and suspense added depth to the otherwise formulaic action movies. The movies aren’t built on massive explosions and killer fight scenes, but it does have enough to put a smile on that dial. What is gas is the suspense that has you

return of the jedi
death star

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi was the end to the greatest trilogy ever screened  (or so we thought back then ) it brought to fruition the seeds planted in the first two films. It added to the mythology and closed the chapter in the best possible way. However, it was lacking when compared to the movie before. The 80’s movie was epic in scale. We miss that part these days when the massive scale is an everyday thing in movies. But Star Wars did it before it was cool.

Indiana
Jones

Indian Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, our favorite adventure trilogy. Yes, trilogy and had us in awe as we followed Dr. Jones on his adventures. It is one of those films that can never be remade or replicated. It has such a unique identity, which is ironic as the premise is rather simple. It is amazing what can be created when concepts are kept simple and to the point.

freddy
Sweet Dreams

A Nightmare on Elm Street is the movie that brought the chills and countless sleepless nights. The birth of hall of gamer Freddy Krueger is nothin how to be overlooked. Let’s not forget it also gave us Depp. Pity the franchise kept moving south from here.

ET was the cute lovable family-friendly movie that grabbed everyone’s hearts. A simple story about a kid that just wanted to go home. His home just happened to be light-years away. This movie may be the hearts of the 80’s.
