The Snyderverse is dead, with almost zero chance of any form of resurrection. Looking back, it could have gone so different. What if we got Bale’s Batman instead of Ben’s?
I know this sound farfetched, and the most common retort I get is that Nolan Universe was its own contained story. It was a complete story that needs no further installment. They not wrong. It was to most degree a very full and complete story, however if you factor the introduction of Ali-Express Robin then maybe that story isn’t as complete as one would think.
How would Bale tie in?
Bat-Bale was the only hero in his world, however, would the swift stroke of a pen he would go from only to simply the first. And it would fit.
During The Dark Knight Rises, Gotham is in peril. The city is left for dead. Clark sees this on tv and decides to help but incognito much akin to Bruce in MoS.
Bruce survives the bomb in the bat. It is a feat that is nigh impossible. We could chalk this down to Batman and his prep time. But what if it was Superman saving him? Bruce then stays dead to find this super-man who saved his life.
Enter the events of Man of Steel, and Bruce sees Clark in full Kryptonian kill mode. He then faces the dilemma of either what to do with a man that can either save the world or destroy it. A brutal fight scene later and they he decides that a man who saved him, may be worth taking a risk on.
Enter the Justice League
Each other hero would get their own solo origin movie with Clark and Bruce showing up at the end to recruit them. It would then end in the Justice League which would focus on Lex as the villain.
Having Lex visit an imprisoned Joker, would be another fantastic scene. Masking him behind dim lights and shadows, we could preserve the memorable performance of Ledger and still have a great cameo.
We could even rope in Reeves Constantine into the mix as that movie isolated enough o still be included in any new Universe.
Why would it Work?
Well, it would still give a us a more seasoned Batman and one whose fight we could relate to. Bale’s batman is the perfect foil to Henry. Different in every way, opposites if you will. He also would bring in a nice supporting cast. Nolan’s universe was the perfect foundation to build the new world order in. The people have been subjected to this new radical way of life where heroes exist. It would also allow for Batman to float across the movies for a bit before returning to his own solo.
Nolan’s world was indeed very grounded, and while one may argue that it suits the DCEU, I beg to differ. The grounded world would slowly unravel into the madness on the Meta. This would allow to audience to merge into the world as well. This would hopefully let Nolan do one or more additional Batman flicks.
Sure its too late now but imagine if Barry (new or old) goes back and makes this happen…
