There are few games that manage to stand the test of time, Super Mario, Pacman and Tetris always come to mind. But for real-time strategy, it must be Age of Empires. The king of kings. It was unlike anything that had come before it. And it would be replicated to various results. But even today, decades after its original release it is a fan favorite. Why Microsoft kept it dormant for this long of a period, we will never know. But it is on its way back, and frankly, I can’t wait.
Teaser Trailer
The teaser doesn’t reveal too much. It does, however, gets the blood flowing. There are mountains of questions that we all have regarding the new installment. How far will the ages advance? How complex will the technology tree be? Will it be resource-heavy? To me, this is a big one. I was never a hardcore PC gamer. I was always down with the mere mortals and our consoles. But games like AOE had won my affection because you could have a run of the mill pc and still have a great gaming experience playing it. Sure a top tier graphics card would enhance it but it was always optional. I think keeping it this way will go a long way to the success of the game.
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition
Now, this is the other news. Coming 14 November 2019. This will be a High Definition version of the best installment of the series. Well in my humble opinion anyway. There will be 4 new civilizations, as well as 3 brand new campaigns. And the is one called the Last Khans. But the best bit is mostly likely cross-play. This mixed play will be between Microsoft and Xbox as well as Steam. I think this will be enough to whet our appetites until number 4 arrives.
