The next generation of consoles is almost upon us and we are absolutely beaming with delight. However that doesn’t mean we chuck out our dear old friends who have been with us for so long. Nope, we take of the our comrades who have helped us defeat armies, and win championships.

It’s not even that hard. There are few simple hacks that will drastically increase the lifespan of you console. Most maintenance procedures aren’t expensive or time consuming. It does make a huge difference though.

Dust to Dust
Dust is to consoles, what Covid is to humans. Just keep as much social distancing as possible and all should be fine. Simple wipe downs and dusting goes a long way to preserving the lifespan of an electronic machine. Use a microfiber clothe and simple wipe it, paying a little extra attention to the vents. Using a soft bristle brush after to full open or clear dust that has settled in the actual vents. You can take this a step further by buying a can of compressed air. However be careful when using it. Remember to blow dirt away. Blowing it incorrectly can push dirt further in.

Just be Cool Bro
Keeping cool is important, but this should be from day one. We tend to forget that these are powerful processors crunching massive amounts of data per millisecond. That pushes temperatures to mad levels. And while the manufacturers have put it cooling aids and counter measures, it is best to help the process. Keeping the machine in an open space helps. I have seen some cooking mods for consoles but don’t recommend them. Also be careful with fans. They help with one hand and destroy with the other.

Soft and Gentle
The next hack may take 15 minutes to download. Well that depends on your service provider. We taking about updates. Keeping your console updated helps. And sure updates slow down once the new console takes over but not immediately. So keep up to date with the OS and regular house keeping.
My biggest regrets were selling my older machines in order to offset the new models price tags. It’s a mistake I shall not repeat. So if like me you want to maximize the machines lifespan, then simply follow the steps above and presto you will have a healthier machine for longer. Happy maintenance.
