Reviews of movies are written to either coax somebody into watching them or help prevent somebody from a terrible movie. Avengers Endgame doesn’t need any of this. People are flocking in droves to watch it. That doesn’t mean it’s a perfect movie. There are still those that have no interest in it. And that’s fine too… I suppose.

Better Late than Never

Personally, this is the 3rd review I have written. I kid you not. I did one on the day after watching it the first time and one spoiler riddled two days ago. So yeah the review is late. But the greatest superheroes arrive sometimes only in the final act and is met with thunderous applause from the audience…

Oh Snap

The movie itself is very different than any other Avengers movie before it and that includes Infinity War. We drop back with the characters just moments after the snap. Each member of the core team or what’s left of them is dealing with the gravity of the event in their own unique way. The movie is a very intimate piece. All about the characters and their closing arcs rather than big set pieces and explosions. (that comes later… much later). As with most Marvel movies, this one is laced with well-timed comedy but also sincere moments that allow for the true tone of the movie to set in.

To Pee or Not to Pee

As mammoth as a movie, this is it cannot cover every single aspect that we would like. There are some portions where the proverbial ball is dropped. Most noted by fans are the rules the movie lays out then slowly stumbles on the eggshells. Personally, on my first viewing, I didn’t even notice it, I was too much in awe. But the second time around and the cracks began to show. It was never going to be easy wrapping a 22 movie saga. Peeing aside 3 hours just isn’t enough to bring closure to this much rich history. The Russo brothers are no Hawkeye but pretty much hit it as close to perfect as one can.

Like a said, it isn’t about whether the movie is a god or not. It’s about how good it is. Well if breaking records left right and center isn’t enough then let me bring this close to home. Until this movie, The Dark Knight was regarded as the best superhero film ever made by me. Anything and everything I watched was measured against it at some level or another. I always felt that while it will be beaten financially (and it has…many times over)  its depth or magnitude would never be surpassed. Today I retract that statement. And I know they are two very different movies. But the bar has been raised…

PS: Spoiler ban lifts soon and we will be talking theories and possible franchise future.
